Description
The absolute cross section for the ionisation process Mo+ + e→ Mo2+ + 2e has been measured at electron energies ranging from the ionisation threshold to 1000 eV using the crossed electron-ion beams technique. The total error at a 90% confidence level is estimated to be less than +- 4.5% for energies above 20 eV. There is evidence that the Mo+ beam contained some metastable ions. Cross sections calculated using the scaled Born approximation of McGuire [1977, Phys. Rev. A. 16 73-9], are also given for ionisation of Mo+. The McGuire calculation underestimates the experimental cross section at all energies. (author)
