Investigation of americium(3) and americium(4) complexing in phosphoric acid solutions
Description
Am(3) complexing in 0.01-13M H3PO4 has been studied spectrophotometrically. The thermodynamic constants of stability are reported for complex ions of AmH2PO42+ (β10=5.4x102) and Am(H2PO4)2+ (β20=5.3x103). The formal oxidation potential of the Am(3)/Am(4) pair in 10-15M H3PO4 was measured and the stability constant of the Am(H2PO4)3+ complex calculated (β30=1.6x1014). The deceleration of Am(4) disproportionating with increasing concentration of H3PO4 is shown to be due to the formation of Am(4) phosphate complex
