A gas target assembly for the production of high purity, high specific activity 81Rb

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., Ill. (USA)

Description

The design of a leak proof gas target assembly system capable of handling high beam currents for the production of 81Rb from the reaction 82Kr(d, 3n)81Rb with a deuteron beam of 21 to 22 MeV or from the reaction 82Kr(p, 2n)81Rb using 19 MeV protons, is discussed. The system was designed to allow for the divergence of the beam in the gas space while minimizing the amount of target gas. It was also necessary to have a sufficiently long path length to permit efficient use of the beam. A schematic diagram of the krypton gas target chamber is shown. (U.K.)
