Description
Cross sections are obtained for the 27Al13(π-, p4n)22Na11, 56Fe26(π-, 4p6n)46Sc21 and 56Fe26(π-, 2n)54Mn25 reactions for the initial π--meson energies of 89, 160, and 288 MeV. The cross sections of 22Na production on aluminium induced by π- mesons are comparable with the corresponding cross sections for protons in the same energy region, as well as for Esub(p)=Esub(π)+140 MeV. As to the cross sections for production of neutron-excess radioactive isotopes 46Sc and 54Mn from iron exposed to π- medosons, they are considerably larger than the corresponding cross sections on protons. The obtained results show the theoretically predicted effects for neutron-excess isotopes, due to production of pion-nucleon isobars and their subsequent independent interaction with nucleons in the intranuclear cascade
