Influence of edge effects and of impurities on the thermal stability of a tokamak plasma

Description

Based on a linear stability analysis for the space-time-dependent energy balance, the thermal stability of a D-T plasma in the temperature range from 5 keV to 20 keV is discussed, taking into account impurities, edge effects and partial compensation of radiation losses by additional heating (neutral beam injection). Regions of stable and quasi-stable burning, the latter one characterized by a limitation of the product of axial ion density and burning time, are determined
