Ligating behaviour of amino acids towards lanthanide ions: studies in aqueous and non-aqueous medium
Description
Amino acids add on to lanthanide chlorides in aqueous solution to give adducts of the type, Ln(L3)Cl3.3H2O, thereby retaining their zwitterion formation tendency. However, in non-aqueous medium, deprotonation occurs when amino acids are reacted with lanthanide isopropoxides. Conductometric studies show the former to be strong (1:3) electrolytes. Spectral data indicate that both of carboxylic oxygens in these complexes take part in coordination with metal ion. (author)
