Cathode spot initiation system in a vacuum-arc ion source

Description

System of cathode spot initiation in vacuum-arc ion source of MeV-va type is described. The specific feature of the initiation system is the use of auxiliary gas discharge in a strong magnetic field. Voltage of arc ignition at 3 x 10-3 Pa working pressure was equal to ≤ 100 V. Ignition system was applied in ionic source. Its design and some characteristics are presented. 18 refs., 6 figs
