Investigation into radiation process of the waste water purification and development of pilot-industrial plant

Description

A method of radiational clarification of waste water with a high concentration of contaminations in the foamed state by a beam of accelerated electrons is described. Electron accelerators with energy up to 1 Mev are used for irradiation. The concentration of surface-active substances (SAS) is determined spectrometrically. It has been observed that foam formation has been suppressed, a chromaticity decreased, a smell eliminated and waste water sterilized as a result of irradiation. In order to find whether this process can be used for preliminary clarification, the effect of irradiated water upon an active silt has been studied. It has been shown that as a result of radiational preliminary processing the active silt load can be reduced. This permits to decrease the area occupied by a clarification system by 20-25 per cent or to increase its throughput. On the basis of these studies a pilot installation for preliminary radiational clarification of waste water has been developed
