Intensity of Yb3+ ion absorption band in solutions of some complexes

Description
The variation of Yb3+ ion absorption band intensity has been investigated in solutions of different complexes (with carboxylic acids of aliphatic series, hydroxycarboxylic acids, aminoacids, β-diketones, etc.). Comparison of absorption spectra of the solutions of Yb3+ complexes and its chloride shows that complexing processes increase the Yb3+ ion absorption band intensity and width. The band maximum of the solutions of complexes is shifted by 2-6 nm towards longer waves. The molar maximum-absorption extinction coefficients (epsilon) are increased 4 to 5-fold in solutions of certain complexes. The greatest value of epsilon(11.2) has been obtained in solutions of citric acid complexes. It has been found that the oscillator power of the Yb3+ absorption band increases with the ligand molecules coordinated thereby
