An empirical weak parity-non-conserving nucleon-nucleon potential with ΔT = 1 and ΔT = 2 enhancement

Description
An empirical weak parity-non-conserving potential is constructed from the presently available experimental data on parity mixtures in nuclei. A feature of this potential, which provides a reasonable fit to the data, is the strongly enhanced ΔT = 2 component. This is demanded by the observed circular polarization of the photon emitted in n + p → d + γ, and independently by the observed parity mixtures in heavy nuclei. The ΔT = 1 potential is also enhanced, suggesting the presence of neutral currents. (author)
