The magnetic field of the helium-weak star 3 Scorpii
Description
The helium-weak star 3 Sco is found to have a variable longitudinal magnetic field, which ranges between +1700 and -4100 gauss with a period of 1.46 day. It is shown that the magnetic field geometry may be modelled by a dipole field distribution with the magnetic axis almost perpendicular to the rotation axis. The star seems to have helium deficient zones near the two magnetic poles, and a helium-rich region around the magnetic equator. (author)
