High-quality bedside radiography using a new fixed geometry device

Description

In bedside radiography, image quality is compromised by scattered radiation. Variations in beam centering and tube-film distance limit the utility of a grid, and contribute to inconsistent film density. Therefore, the authors have constructed a lightweight mechanical arm which is attached to the collimator housing of a mobile x-ray unit. This supports a grid/cassette holder at a fixed distance from the x-ray source and in precise alignment with the beam. Preliminary clinical trials indicate that this simple device can improve both the quality and ease of bedside radiography
