Creep of pyrolytic carbon under irradiation
Description
Three massive samples of pyrocarbon were irradiated at 1,1000C up a maximum fast neutron dose of 1.22 x 1021 DNE. They were subjected to stresses in the range 13-19.6 MNm-2. The pyrocarbon was deposited from methane in a rotating furnace. Its density, its isotropy, its structure measured by X-rays and T.E.M. relate closely to its homologue deposited from methane in fluidized conditions. A study of creep under irradiation showed that a short stage of primary creep is followed by a stage which is linear with respect to both stress and fast-neutron dose. Creep is thus well represented by an expression of the form epsilon = K sigma phi where K = 2.15 x 10-24 (MNm-2DNE)-1 which is a value ten times greater than previously estimated. (orig.)

Drei Massivproben von Pyrokohlenstoff wurden bei 1.1000C mit schnellen Neutronen bis zu einer Dosis von maximal 1,22 x 1021 DNE bestrahlt. Sie wurden Spannungen von 13-19,6 MNm-2 unterworfen. Der Pyrokohlenstoff wurde in einem Drehofen aus Methan abgeschieden. Hinsichtlich Dichte, Isotropie und Struktur (gemessen mit Roentgenstrahlung und T.E.M.) entspricht er weitgehend seinen Homologen, die aus Methan unter fluiden Bedingungen abgeschieden werden. Die Untersuchung des Kriechverhaltens unter Bestrahlung zeigte, dass auf ein kurzes primaeres Kriechstadium ein zweites, in Bezug auf Spannung und Neutronendosis lineares Stadium folgt. Das Kriechverhalten wird durch eine Gleichung der Form epsilon = K sigma phi gut beschrieben, wobei K = 2,15 x 10-2 (MNm-2DNE)-1. Dieser Wert liegt um das Zehnfache hoeher als bisher angenommen.
