Probability of the spin flip in 6 MeV proton inelastic scattering on 26Mg

Description

The results are presented of measurements of angular and energy dependence of the spin-flip probability (S) in inelastic scattering of protons with the energy 6 MeV on 26Mg (state 21+). The results are given of calculating S by the distorted wave method and by the Houser-Feshbach statistical theory. From comparing the results of calculations it is possible to draw a conclusion that by varying the optical potential parameters in a reasonable range and taking account of the direct process contribution it is possible to describe the angular dependence S(THETA) and the total cross section of inelastic scattering better. However such an approach has some difficulties in explaining polarization observed in inelastic scattering. It is most probable that together with a noticeable contribution of the statistical mechanism into inelastic scattering the interference between the direct and resonance scattering mechanism amplitudes is essential
