A study on the design of ultrasonic tranducer for nondestructive evaluation

  • 1. Kyung Hee Univ., Seoul (Republic of Korea)

Description

In this paper, Ultrasonic thin disk transducer is designed by using Mason's equivalent circuit model and resonant conditions. The impulse response and roundtrip insertion loss of thin disk transducer are investigated through computer simulation and compared with experimental results. The thin disk transducer used in this experiment has dimensions of 3.8cm diameter and 0.97mm thickness at 2.25MHz center frequency with piezoelectric ceramics PZT-5A. Measurement results show that pulse lobe width of impulse response is about 7 uses and quality factor of transducer is about 9.4. These are in good agreements with theoretical characteristics.
