Summary of discussion on GUTS and Kaluza-Klein theories
Description
This chapter reviews research on the relation of monopoles to grand unified theories (GUTs) and Kaluza-Klein theories. Grand unified theories with conventional charge assignments for quarks and leptons predict the existence of a topologically stable monopole that carries one unit of Dirac magnetic charge and also carries screened color magnetic fields. The magnetic monopoles that appear in Kaluza-Klein theories, especially in the original five dimensional model of Kaluza, are described
