Development and application of gas flow proportional counters for contamination monitoring

  • 1. Radiation Safety Systems Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

This paper presents the design, development and the performance of an indigenously developed multi-wire gas flow proportional counter design implemented for various alpha contamination monitoring applications. In all these applications, commercial grade argon gas was allowed to flow through these detectors. Commercially available, locally manufactured high voltage unit provides required HV for the detectors. This paper describes the salient features and advantages of gas flow detectors in three different contamination-monitoring applications. (author)
