Description
One condenser tube from Tarapur Atomic Power Station Unit No.1 (TAPS-1) was received at PIED for failure analysis. This condenser tube was plugged in October 2006 as it was found leaky and was removed from the condenser in 2008 for failure analysis. The condenser tube was in service since 1969 and was made of aluminium brass (ASTM-B-111). Detailed examination and analysis of the tube material was carried out especially around the defect. Inner surface composition in the grooved region showed significantly increased concentration of lead and arsenic. Also sulphur was present near pit on the inner surface. In this paper findings of the examination are presented
