Comparative evaluation of nuclear and coal-fueled power plants efficiency

Description

The paper published in ''Energy Policy'' and devoted to the effect of a power unit size on the electric energy cost generated by NPP and TPP is briefly reviewed. It is marked that cost of electricity production at large nuclear units is turned out to be lower than at coal-fired units, when estimating mean cost indices. When full demand for new power in the period under consideration can be met by a single unit with 500 MW, the beneficent situation is formed for small units; coal-fired unit is more cost-effective. In other cases NPPs are more preferable
