Estimation of dose of pulmonary macrophages in rats after inhalation of 239PuO2

  • 1. Beijing Inst. of Radiation Medicine (China)

Description

Mean dose of inhaled 239PuO2 to lung and nucleus of pulmonary macrophages (PM) were estimated with Monte Carlo technique, based on the retention function of Pu in rat lung, the renewal function of PM, some relevant biological information and the supposition that the aerosol have the behavior of monodispersed one. For 4 groups of rats with the irradiation time of 2, 7, 13 and 28 day, the calculated mean absorbed doses to lungs were 0.7, 1.7, 1.2 and 2.6 Gy and mean absorbed doses to nucleus of PM were 0.95, 2.21, 1.71 and 3.23 Gy, respectively. The ratio of doses between nucleus of PM and lung was 1.3. The dose to PM nucleus is mainly contributed by 239PuO2 located in PM and only 1% of total dose from 239PuO2 outside PM
