Analysis of gas amplification in Kr-mixture-filled proportional counters by double parametrization method
Description
Gas amplification in Kr, Kr-hydrocarbon, and Kr-CO2 filled proportional counters are estimated using a double parametrization analytic technique. Townsend first-ionization coefficient data were generated for the mixtures from the experimental values of their constituents. The fit of an expression to the data enabled important parameters characterizing each mixture to be determined. These were then used to evaluate the integral in the gas-gain equation. The resulting data were again fitted with another analytic formula, to obtain constants that afford easy evaluation of the gas gain in the mixtures. The results obtained were compared with available experimental data. Physical factors that may be responsible for differences between experimental and calculated gas gain are also discussed. (author)
