Process and device for locating defective nuclear fuel elements

Description

An apparatus for detecting defective nuclear fuel elements is described. It comprises a test chamber filled with water for individually enclosing and sealing the fuel elements to be tested, test chamber having a gas sparger disposed at the bottom of test chamber so that the gas purges the water surrounding fuel element of any fission gases pulled therefrom and displaces the water above the fuel elements to effect a reduction in pressure in test chamber

Abstract (French)

On decrit un procede de localisation d'elements de combustible nucleaires defectueux, caracterise en ce qu'il consiste a enfermer individuellement l'element de combustible a controler dans une chambre de controle remplie d'eau, a introduire de l'air dans la chambre au moyen d'un dispositif de distribution de gaz dispose au fond de la chambre, de telle maniere que cet air purge l'eau entourant l'element de combustible de tous gaz de fission degages par ce dernier et deplace une partie de l'eau au-dessus de l'element de combustible, reduisant ainsi la pression dans la chambre
