Fuel rod for a sodium-cooled reactor
Description
The fuel element is filled with pellets, and the space between the cladding and the fuel contains sodium for sodium bonding purposes. Between the fuel and the upper opening there is a throttle followed by a sealing cone. The throttle is easily permeable only to gases. The carrier of the rod is equipped with a non-return valve which, under normal conditions, only allows sodium to pass from the outside into the rod. It contains an additional relief valve which allows sodium to escape from the rod, if the internal pressure is too high. Thus, in case of leaks the sodium bonding can be restored from the rod carrier. (DG)

Das BE ist mit Pellets gefuellt und im Raum zwischen Huelle und Brennstoff befindet sich Na fuer die Natrium-Bindung. Zwischen Brennstoff und oberer Oeffnung liegt ein Drosselkoerper mit anschliessender Tauchglocke. Der Drosselkoerper ist nur fuer Gase leicht durchdringbar. Im Stabfuss ist ein Rueckschlagventil vorgesehen, welches im Normalfall nur Na von aussen in den Stab hinein zulaesst. Es enthaelt zusaetzlich ein Ueberdruckventil, durch das bei zu hohem Innendruck im Stab Na aus dem Stab heraustreten kann. Die Natrium-Bindung kann somit vom Stabfuss her bei Undichtigkeiten erneuert werden. (DG)Files
