High-sensitivity detection of low-energy photon emitters in man by pulse-shape analysis

Description
Recent developments in whole-body counting techniques for 239Pu in man show the advantages of pulse-shape discrimination methods in connection with phoswich detectors and proportional counters. These methods are limited by the high time spread in derivation of rise-time. To overcome these problems the timing technique was optimized. Further, the correlation between rise-time and photon energy by use of a multi-parameter analyser was investigated. On the basis of these results the conditions for optimal pulse-shape discrimination may be obtained. (author)
