Indirect irradiation

Creators

Description

A European project has been launched to study the bystander effect. This effect illustrates the fact that after the irradiation of a part of a body that generates gene damages in cells, similar damages appear later in cells belonging to non-irradiated parts. This effect has been studied for the last 20 years and in 2008 this remote and delayed effect was observed in mice accurately. Brain tumors have been observed while only the mice feet were irradiated. (A.C.)
