Radiological protection in biomedical research

The objectives of the present ICRP document are to provide advice to individuals planning research involving patients and volunteers exposed to ionizing radiation. Topics covered include ethical aspects, nature and magnitude of radiation risks, methodology of risk assessment, principles of research design involving use of ionizing radiation, factors related to project evaluation and recommended procedures for project evaluation and responsibilities. In the Addendum, data on radiation doses to patients from radiopharmaceuticals are presented by the ICRP. Finally, a summary of the current ICRP principles for protection of the patient in diagnostic radiology is given. (UK)
