Safety investigations on KWU ECC-systems LOCA thermohydraulic phenomena simulated in the PKL-facility
Description
This paper discusses the behaviour of a PWR under LOCA conditions that was experimentally investigated at KWU in the PKL test-facility. Large break tests, especially under ''best estimate'' conditions, demonstrate the safety margins of the KWU ECC-System. Small break experiments show that the automatically initiated cooldown procedure for the secondary side together with high pressure injection at the hot side of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) is an appropriate measure to cover this spectrum of accidents and can avoid pressurized thermal shock problems in the RPV
