Vacuum interface compatibility experiment (VICE) for MYRRHA
Description
The spallation target and cooling material of MYRRHA is lead bismuth eutectic (LBE). However, off-the-shelve LBE cannot be used in a spallation loop because possible insoluble contaminations may accumulate at ridges in the lop giving rise to obstructions in the flow. Also, in order to sufficiently retard the corrosion of LBE on stainless steel, the oxygen level in the LBE has to controlled at a level of about 10-6 weight percent. The vacuum interface compatibility experiment (VICE) consists of two vessels that serve the double goal of the project. The principal results and future developments are summarised
