Calibration method of a Na I (Tl) detector - application to γ emitter dosimetry in gaseous phase

Description
In the first section, the present paper gives a general method for calculating (1) (2) the absolute total efficiency of a cylindrical Na-I crystal, for few geometries: point source, line source, line source, disk source, cylindrical source. In the second section, we determined experimentally the photo-fraction of this crystal. The product of the absolute total efficiency into the photo-fraction, yields the absolute peak efficiency R, of the crystal for those geometries. We plotted R, versus Eγ, the energy of the incident photon on the crystal. Those curves are usually used to determine the quantity of radionuclides contained in a source of a given geometry when the corresponding reference source is unknown. This case is usual with cylindrical gaseous sources, reference source of which are practically impossible to be found. (author)
Abstract (French)
La presente etude donne dans une premiere partie, une methode generale pour le calcul (1) (2) de l'efficacite total absolue d'un cristal cylindrique pour plusieurs geometries: source ponctuelle, source lineaire, source discale, source cylindrique. Dans une deuxieme partie nous avons determine experimentalement la photofraction de ce meme cristal. Le produit de l'efficacite totale absolue par la photofraction, donne le rendement 'photoelectrique' absolu R du cristal pour ces geometries. Nous avons trace R en fonction de l'energie Eγ du photon incident sur le cristal. Ces courbes sont tres utilisees pour le dosage de radionucleides contenus dans une source de geometrie determinee, lorsque l'on ne possede pas la source etalon correspondante. C'est le cas, notamment, de sources cylindriques gazeuses dont les etalons sont pratiquement introuvables. (auteur)Files
