Electron density distribution in tetrahedral vanadium cluster (η5-C5H4Me)4V4(μ3-S)4 at 150 K

Description

X-ray diffraction method was used for investigation into crystal and molecular structure, as well as electron density distribution (EDD) in the crystal of tetrahedral vanadium cluster (η5 - C5H4Me)4V4(μ3 - S)4 (1) at 150 K. Crystals 1 are cubic ones, sp. gr. P4-bar3n, a=16.354(1) A, Z=6. Lengths of all V-V bonds in tetrahedral V4-metal frame are similar (2.875 and 2.869 A). μ3 - bridge S atom is located at each face of V4 tetrahedron. V-S 2.290-2.297 A distance testifies at that to partially multiple character of these bonds. It follows from EDD analysis that V4 frame stability is provided mainly due to strong μ3-bridge bonds which are largely delocalized over V3S-tetrahedron
