Use of environmental isotope methods as a reconnaissance tool in groundwater exploration near San Antonio de Pichincha, Ecuador
Description
In a semiarid area in the Sierra of Ecuador (about 20 km north of Quito), measurements of deuterium, oxygen 18, and tritium content in spring water, surface water, and precipitation have been performed. The results, together with some meteorological and hydrogeological data, furnished information on the recharge area and on the recharge rate of groundwater. On the basis of the results a groundwater exploitation does not appear feasible. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In einem semiariden Gebiet der Sierra von Ecuador wurde der Deuterium-, 18O- und Tritiumgehalt in Quellwasser, Oberflaechengewaessern und Niederschlag gemessen. In Verbindung mit geologischen und hydrodynamischen Daten lieferten die Ergebnisse Informationen ueber das Ernaehrungsgebiet und die Versicherungsrate des Grundwassers.
