Description

The transport properties of β-Ta2O5 have been widely studied due to the technological importance of this material as a capacitor. However, the possible influence of microstructural features such as grain size or porosity have not been investigated. As a first step, the study of the densification of Ta2O5 was carried out using non-isothermal dilatometry. The results are interpreted using the Coble model modified for anisothermal conditions. A finer analysis is proposed to take into account the grain growth noticeable above 1000 C. Full densification is achieved at 1350 C and solid-state diffusion is the main driving force of the process
