Advancing liquid metal reactor technology with nitride fuels
- 1. Westinghouse Hanford Co., Richland, WA (United States)
Description
A review of the use of nitride fuels in liquid metal fast reactors is presented. Past studies indicate that both uranium nitride and uranium/plutonium nitride possess characteristics that may offer enhanced performance, particularly in the area of passive safety. To further quantify these effects, the analysis of a mixed-nitride fuel system utilizing the geometry and power level of the U.S. Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor as a reference is described. (author)
