Study of the equilibrium of reaction of ion formation of monovalent gallium in the Gasub(met)-Ga+3 system in solution of lanthanum bromide

Description
A study is made of the reaction by which ions of univalent gallium are formed: 2Ga+GaBr3 reversible 3GaBr. The reaction occurs in aqueous solutions of tribalent gallium in contact with metallic gallium. The effects of lanthanum bromide on the reaction equilibrium and the influence of the trivalent gallium concentration on the equilibrium concentration of univalent gallium in the bromide solutions were studied. It was found that addition of lanthanum bromide causes a shift in the equilibrium towards formation of univalent gallium ions, and that complexing occurs in this system. (author)
