Three steps to fusion: What are the questions, where are the answers?

The physics of fusion of two nuclei is divided conceptually into three parts: potentials and couplings in the entrance channel, dynamics in capture, and motion from capture to fusion. Open questions and selected recent advances in each are discussed. (author)
