Status of nuclear hydrogen development and demonstration program in Korea

Description
KAERI is developing a dedicated hydrogen production plant system known as NHDD (Nuclear Hydrogen Development and Demonstration). A 200 MWth VHTR reactor concept with a 950degC heat supply and a sulfur iodine thermo-chemical process is selected as a candidate concept for the demonstration plant. A R and D program to resolve technical issues has been launched. Key research topics are the development of design tools, an assessment of high temperature anti corrosion materials and components, a small scale gas loop, a bench scale TRISO fuel fabrication facility, a bench scale SI thermo-chemical closed loop, and high pressure sections of the SI thermo-chemical process.
