Electron temperature gradient turbulence induced energy flux in the large volume plasma device

  • 1. Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar (India)

Description

The Large Volume Plasma Device (LVPD) has successfully demonstrated excitation of Electron Temperature Gradient (ETG) driven turbulence. We have identified the ETG turbulence by measuring the fluctuations in density, potential, temperature, magnetic field and by investigating its various spectral characteristics viz., power-spectra, correlation, phase angle, propagation, and wave number-frequency spectrum respectively. Plasma transport study due to this small scale ETG fluctuations (where is the perpendicular wave number of ETG mode and is electron larmor radius) is very crucial in terms of understanding plasma confinement in fusion devices. Experiments are carried out in detail on the measurement of turbulent particle, and heat flux and results compared with theoretical predictions of ETG driven turbulent transport. The conductive and convective heat flux is measured, which provide an estimation of ETG turbulence- induced heat flux in LVPD. It observed that although convective flux radially inward, the net energy flux remains directed radially outward. Detailed results highlighting the significance of this study will be present.
