The Kursk accident
Description
Monitoring of radioactivity inside the submarine and in the surroundings of Kursk did not show any sign of leakage from the reactors. Based on present knowledge a preliminary impact assessment, following a ''worst case'' scenario during a lifting operation is performed. An estimated activity level of about 80-100 Bq/kg of 137Cs in fish is found if 100 % of the radionuclides in the reactors are released to the seawater. (Author)
