Kinetics of V centre production in α-Al2O3 irradiated by high-energy electrons

Description
Kinetics of V center production in (α-Al2O3) corundum crystals, irradiated with 50 MeV energy electrons is experimentally investigated. A linear increase of V center concentration with the radiation dose growth is observed. It is detected that temperature annealing and decolouration with light with wave lengths in 205, 255 and 302 nm optical absorption bands lead to a reduction of 410 nm typical band intensity. An increase of V center concentration is observed under synchrotron radiation effect (wave length λmax = 0.1 A) on the crystal irradiated and annealed at 425 deg C. A V center model, based on which their optical absorption is explained is presented. 13 refs., 4 figs
