The 1995 declaration of the German gas economy on climate protection

On 10 March 1995 the German economy declared that it was comitting itself of its own accord to reduce its specific energy consumption and specific CO2 emissions by up to 20% in the period from 1987 to 2005. Following this example the German gas economy has now too made a similar commitment of its own. The present article elucidates this sector's declaration of its self-imposed cominitment by describing the structure, system, and exact scope of the commitment, and the efforts that are to be undertaken to this end. It becomes clear that the set aims can only be achieved if certain framework conditions remain fulfilled until the year 2005. (orig.)
