Radiation injury and postradiation recovery of cornea epithelium cells of mice affected by multiply charged heavy ions

Description
Effects of affection of the chromosomal apparatus of mouse corneal epithelium cells were investigated at various periods after the action of accelerated multiply charged ions and electromagnetic radiation. The calculated maximal relative biological efficiency (RBE) coefficients values of heavy ions constituted 3-6 and varied depending on their physical parameters, dose levels, and investigation periods. When fractional action methods were applied a sharp reduction in the postradiation repair of chromosomal disturbances was revealed, this leading to marked increase in the RBE coefficients of heavy ions at late and remote irradiation periods
