Spallation reactions: calculations

Creators

  • 1. Oak Ridge National Lab., Tenn. (USA)

Description

Current methods for calculating spallation reactions over various energy ranges are described and evaluated. Recent semiempirical fits to existing data will probably yield the most accurate predictions for these reactions in general. However, if the products in question have binding energies appreciably different from their isotopic neighbours and if the cross section is approximately 30 mb or larger, then the intranuclear cascade-evaporation approach is probably better suited.
