Description
Rapid depletion of economically viable oil reserves in general, and gas reserves in particular, has forced a reappraisal of coal, which is a comparatively problematic fossil fuel. The nuisance value of coal is attributed to its pollutant contributor role, such as for NOx emissions. To enable a cleaner burning of coal multi-pronged efforts are required. In this regard a multiple value fuzzy logic based active control procedure is developed that utilises a first-principles based understanding of pulverised coal combustion. Simulation results from an off-line development approach for the Imperial College large-scale laboratory furnace are presented. (author)
