Skyshine and scattered radiation from x-ray facilities having practical geometries
Description
Many industrial X-ray facilities, used for radiography of large objects, are installed with open tops or partially shielded ceilings. In addition, various scattering surfaces can be present near the X-ray unit, such as unshielded walls, the plant roof or a false ceiling. These surfaces, plus air, will contribute to scattered radiation in occupied areas. This study was designed to evaluate factors involved, develop a computer program to calculate scatter exposure rates, compare measured and calculated results, and explore some of the variations that occur with changing geometry
