Description
Precipitation of γ' (Ni3Al) was studied in Ni-alloys, containing 8.5, 11.1 and 13.1 at% Al, during thermal aging from 673 K to 1023 K and during 6.2 MeV proton irradiation at temperatures from 43 K to 663 K. Diffusion coefficients and solubility of aluminium in nickel were derived from resistivity measurements and transmission electron microscopy. Comparison to irradiation with other particles shows that atomic displacements from irradiation by light ions (or electrons) are more than one order of magnitude more efficient in promoting solute diffusion than those produced by heavy ion irradiation.
