Fast photometry of candidates for the optical/IR counterpart of the X-ray pulsar 1E2259+586

Description
We present new IR fast photometric observations of possible optical counterparts to the X-ray pulsar IE2259 + 586. Contrary to previous work, we detected no IR pulsations from any of the candidates. We conclude that this removes any remaining support for the tentative 2300 s orbital period and indeed the evidence that this is in fact a binary system is now completely circumstantial. The identity of the optical counterpart is once more unknown. (author)
