Shrinking cancerous tumours by applying heat

The article describes research at Haukeland Hospital in Bergen, Norway, on the use of whole-body hyperthermia in the treatment of lymphatic and ovary cancer. Heating the patient to almost 42 oC appears to enhance the effect of cytotoxin or radiation. Hyperthermia combined with other treatment improves the local tumour control in breast cancer, head- and throat cancer and malignant melanoma. If long-time effects of whole-body hyperthermia can be demonstrated, it will have great impact on the treatment of cancer
