Quasimolecular heavy ion-atom collisions
Description
A few selected points to the X-ray field which show in some cases deviations from the general understanding of inner shell excitation in superheavy collision systems or which are not so well known are presented. Examples for characteristic and quasi-molecular X-ray emission for systems around Z1+Z2 ∼ 160 are given. The first measurements of the 2pσ excitation in gases are presented. In order to do such studies effectively a new method was introduced, in which highly charged projectiles are produced by foil stripping at high energies and successive deceleration. The charge state dependence of the X-ray emission is discussed for systems with Z1+Z2 ∼ 110. 43 refs., 32 figs., 2 tabs. (author)
