The search for the ultimate constituents of matter
Description
A brief account of various theories developed to explain the structure of matter and of attempts to discover basic constituents of matter and forces acting amongst them is given. Current thinking is based on leptons, hadrons, strong interactions, weak interactions, electromagnetic interactions, gravity, and quark model. These concepts are explained. Use of particle accelerators in this field is discussed. (M.G.B.)
