Description
Currently, liquid-phase samples from uranium hexafluoride (UF6) cylinders are used by all US Department of Energy enrichment facilities for determining the chemical content of cylinders - a requisite in the control and accountability of nuclear materials. Previously published reports note the economic incentive to use vapor-phase sampling for volatile impurities if the liquid-phase composition can be determined from analysis of vapor-phase composition can be determined from analysis of vapor-phase samples by use of a model of vapor-liquid equilibrium for UF6 and its common impurities. Such a model was adapted for this purpose in earlier work. This report describes efforts to improve the modeling of vapor-phase hydrogen fluoride (HF), one of the common impurities of UF6. 22 refs., 3 figs., 6 tabs
